Dec 11, 2016 - For example, if you don't have a server in the DMZ, and all your servers are always on your domain, than maybe much of the manual config I do. The CloudPassage Blog. A server build checklist – that checks itself! And apply the “General server checklist” to all the other server groups. Hello everyone, I was tasked with creating a more formal and updated version of our server setup list. This list, as it sounds is more a less a set of rules and guidelines that will be used when standing up new servers. I have looked around and haven't really found out any industry standard or really any sort of consistency between the lists. So I figured I would ask here and see if anyone has one, or knows where I might find one. Here is a copy of what we currently use: 1. Name according to naming standard 2. Install operating system 3. Install OS patches 4. Configure network settings 5. Assistir dragon ball z dublado. Configure necessary services and disable unnecessary services, ports and protocols 6. Disable unneeded accounts such as Guest 7. Configure time server to point to DC using GPO. Configure event logging to corporate standard a. If server is placed in existing AD server OU then GPO will ensure appropriate event logs are created. This GPO includes the following settings: i. Log file size sufficient for 7 days worth of records, ii. Server will shut down if unable to write log records, iii. Log audit event for create, read, update and delete events of protected information, iv. Log audit event for execution of any privileged function, v. Log audit event for management activities including system startup/shutdown and security policy changes. Install VMWare tools if virtual or HPtools if physical 10. Add to HP IRS if physical 11. ![]() Document IP address 12. Add to server inventory 13. Install AV, update signatures and place in correct group in AV Manager 14. Join to domain 15. Place in correct OU in AD 16. Configure RDP security 17. Configure windows updates 18. Add to backup schedule 19. Add to Log monitoring 20. Add to vulnerability scanner So I would love to hear thoughts and if you can provide any 'Industry Standard' lists that would be excellent! We've found that using some different lists for different steps helps keep it manageable: 1. Planning - do naming convention,ip address, vlan, location - all that fun stuff here 2. OS - choose from seperate checklists for Windows/Linux/VMware etc. Have things like your logging clients/management setup here, as well as anything else you do to every server of that OS 3. Documentation - write up how-tos for whatever is setup on the server, make sure the previous checklists are actually completed One other note: GPOs shouldn't need to be touched for each server, as long as the computer object is in the right security groups and OU, you should be able to leave it alone. You can do RDP security, disabling guest and windows updates through GPO as well - the fewer manual steps the better! Tell everyone it is going to take 4 hours when really it will take 1.always multiply by at least 4, how else are they supposed to think you are a miracle worker. Copy Template VM to VM area, template VM should be up to date as template VM needs to have updates checked weekly. Join to Domain, Move to correct OU. (Name to naming convention, add description) 3. Set static IP address and document it. All other settings controlled by group policy that is applied to OU. Setup what the server actually does. Check for updates. Reboot server. Wonder what these physical servers are that people speak of that are not hyper-visors. Setup replication and backup. Add to monitoring server. Double check that group policy is being applied properly. Task Expected Result Installation Details Verify hardware meets installation requirements.
